Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until combined.
Step 2: Bake the Cake
- Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Make the Frosting
- Beat the butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low speed.
- Add vanilla and heavy cream, then mix on high speed until fluffy.
- Divide and add food coloring if needed.
Step 4: Assemble and Decorate
- Spread a layer of frosting on one cake, then place the second layer on top.
- Frost the entire cake evenly.
- Decorate with baby-themed toppers, sprinkles, or fondant designs.
Notes
- For a gender reveal cake, add pink or blue food coloring to the batter.
