Ingredients
Method
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, yeast, and sugar. Add lukewarm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Make the Apple Filling: Peel, core, and dice the apples. In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes until apples are tender and the sauce has thickened. Let cool completely.
- Assemble the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle (approx. 12x18 inches). Spread the cooled apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on one long edge. Tightly roll the dough from the opposite long edge into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Bake: Arrange the sliced rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover loosely and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.
Notes
For an extra touch, drizzle with a simple cream cheese glaze or a powdered sugar icing once the rolls have cooled slightly.
