Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or a mix of chips and chunks)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets.
  2. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla.
  3. Mix in dry ingredients until just combined, then fold in chocolate chips and nuts.
  4. Scoop dough onto sheets, spacing 2 inches apart, and bake for 9–11 minutes.
  5. Cool cookies on sheets for 2–3 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For softer cookies, slightly underbake and let cool on sheets.
