Dough
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix flour and baking soda.
  2. Cream butter and sugars, then add salt, vanilla, and eggs.
  3. Gradually mix in flour, then fold in chocolate chips and nuts.
  4. Chill dough for 30 minutes, then portion onto baking sheets.
  5. Bake 10-12 minutes, cool, and serve.

Notes

For softer cookies, slightly underbake and cool on sheets.
