Ingredients

Beef
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or stew meat thinly sliced into strips
Cooking Essentials
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
Mushrooms
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced (white or cremini)
Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¾ cup sour cream
Seasoning
  • Salt & pepper to taste
Serving
  • 8 oz egg noodles cooked
  • fresh parsley optional garnish
  • paprika optional garnish

Method

  1. Cook the beef: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the beef until browned (about 2–3 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté veggies: In the same skillet, add remaining oil, onions, mushrooms, and garlic. Sauté for 5–6 minutes until softened and golden.
  3. Make the sauce: Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture, stir, and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any bits. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add sour cream & beef: Lower heat, stir in sour cream, and return the beef to the pan. Simmer gently (don’t boil) for 2–3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Spoon over cooked egg noodles or rice and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, ensure the flour is well incorporated, and simmer the sauce until it thickens. Serve over egg noodles for a traditional presentation.
