  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Brown ground beef in a skillet. Drain excess grease.
  4. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Combine ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg in a bowl. Mix well.
  7. Combine cooked spaghetti and meat sauce in a large bowl. Mix well.
  8. Pour half of the spaghetti mixture into a baking dish.
  9. Spread ricotta cheese mixture evenly over the spaghetti.
  10. Top with remaining spaghetti mixture.
  11. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and Italian sausage.
