Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 1 loaf day-old bread, cubed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) optional
  • 1 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional) optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt butter in a skillet, sauté onion and celery until softened.
  3. Mix bread with sautéed vegetables, add broth, herbs, and seasonings, then fold in nuts and dried fruit if using.
  4. Transfer to a greased dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15 more minutes until golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, add more herbs or dried fruit to taste.
