Ingredients
  

Pasta
  • 1.5 lb penne pasta
Cheese
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
Meat
  • 1.5 lb lean ground beef
Oils & Aromatics
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
Sauces & Seasonings
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • To taste salt & pepper salt & pepper
  • 1 tsp dried basil
Garnish
  • fresh parsley, chopped parsley

Method
 

  1. Cook the penne in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Mix marinara, basil, salt, and pepper into beef; simmer briefly. Add cooked pasta and toss.
  4. Layer half of the mixture in a greased baking dish, sprinkle with cheese, then add remaining mixture and cheese on top.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden. Rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, then serve.

Notes

For a crunchier topping, sprinkle breadcrumbs or crushed crackers before baking.
