- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add milk, vegetable oil, sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in hot coffee until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
For a deeper chocolate flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting for best results.
