  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) optional
  • 1 pound pasta (penne, rotini, or similar)
  • Salt and pepper to taste to taste
  • 0.5 cup shredded parmesan cheese (optional) optional

Method
 

  1. Brown ground beef in a pot, drain grease.
  2. Add onion and garlic, cook until softened (5 min).
  3. Stir in tomatoes, sauce, broth, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, add pasta (submerge in liquid, add more broth/water if needed).
  5. Reduce heat, cover, simmer for 15-20 min (until pasta is cooked, sauce thickened, stir occasionally).
  6. Remove from heat, stir in parmesan cheese (if using).
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and Italian sausage.
