Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish
  • Chocolate chips for garnish
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Stir in boiling water.
  3. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool completely.
  4. Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
  5. Heat heavy cream until simmering. Pour over chopped chocolate, let sit, then stir until smooth. Add butter and stir until fully incorporated. Cool until pourable.
  6. Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers. Pour ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides. Garnish with chocolate shavings, chips, and cocoa powder.

Notes

Let the ganache set for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best result.
